Footy fans backing blue at the polls

Bookmaker Coral quizzed more than 500 members of its Connect Card Loyalty Scheme to find out who they would be backing in the General Election on June 8th. Thirty-five per cent of football fans stated that they plan to vote Conservative, while twenty per cent of fans in the survey plan to vote for Labour.

When asked who they would choose for the next PM in a list that included the main party leaders and well known characters from the worlds of showbiz and sport, almost one-in-three fans said they would choose Theresa May as the next Prime Minister while Jeremy Corbyn was marginally ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson and Lord Alan Sugar as a fans’ favourite.

Coral's David Stevens commented: "Although the odds are tightening Theresa May is still odds-on favourites to triumph in the polls on June 8."

Last year in a similar survey, Coral polled fans on their thoughts on leaving the EU and 39 per cent said they would back Brexit. After surveying them again this year, almost 50 per cent said they would vote to leave, an increase of 11 per cent from last year.
