The new service will help motorists deal with the cracks caused by the UK’s pothole ravaged roads. In a recent YouGov survey by Halfords over 60% of road users said they were most worried about potholes when driving.*
The service means that motorists can visit any one of 350 shops across the country and book an appointment at a time that is convenient for them.
The high tech repair process involves filling the chip with an acrylic resin and hardening it with ultra violet light. Repairs take just twenty minutes. Windscreen damage can result in an MOT failure; Halfords’ service can help customers by repairing the damage ahead of their MOT and avoid the costly expense of a re-test.
According to Jessica Keeble, Halfords windscreen expert:
“Many motorists wrongly assume that a chip will mean replacing the entire windscreen, but most chips can be easily repaired by an expert. It’s vital that drivers nip chips in the bud before they become a bigger problem.
“Just a small shock or bump can turn an innocuous chip into a serious crack so preventing further damage is key. With the windscreen not only vital in ensuring visibility of the road ahead, but also accounting for up to 30% of a vehicle’s structural integrity, it’s important to get it repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Drivers who are in any doubt about the condition of their windscreen can visit any one of the 350 shops and it will be checked for free.”
Road rubble, changing temperatures and even flying birds are some of the most common reasons for windscreen chips.
