Dame Helen Mirren has today been crowned the nation’s favourite style icon, beating the likes of younger celebrities including Alexa Chung and Millie Mackintosh.
The 70 year old actress, who famously won awards for her portrayal of the Queen, can now add fashion icon to her list of accolades as her off-screen attire strikes gold amongst young and old in a poll of 1,000 women aged 18-80 quizzed on the celebrities’ wardrobe they would most like to own.

32 year old fashionista, Alexa Chung, who is a muse to many fashion designers because of her distinctive personal style, a regular model for Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar and is often seen in the front row at fashion shows conversely only appeared to resonate with the younger woman.

A minimal 3% of respondents aged 30 and above claimed to want her wardrobe, with her quirky dress sense only managing to secure her seventh position as she only appeals to a very young audience.
Dame Helen, who last week even managed to pull off an edgy fashion-forward look in tight leather pants and slogan t-shirt on the set of her new film Collateral Beauty, has seen her effortless and ageless style beat off stiff competition from celebrity fashionistas to claim the top spot.

The survey, commissioned by fashion retailer JD Williams found Joanna Lumley, star of Ab Fab and one of the swinging 60s most booked models, continued the trend for mature fashion, grabbing second position with her stylish impact.
Successful British fashion designer Victoria Beckham will be quaking in her Louboutin’s at the thought of only managing to secure third place in a fashion contest. Surprisingly it was the 16-18 year old age group who found her style to be the most appealing.
TV presenter, Lorraine Kelly OBE who has a clothing range with JDwilliams, can put her fashion disaster days behind her as her demure style of late has seen her voted in at respectable fourth place overall.

The Queen who turns 90 this year, has become famous for wearing bright, block colours, pearl necklaces and plaid skirts and has beaten off other posh wannabes in the fashion stakes. Her style is iconic, with her Launer handbags instantly recognisable and synonymous with her, and Dolce & Gabbana basing an entire collection around her signature looks it’s no wonder she has claimed the fifth spot.

Made in Chelsea, socialite Millie Mackintosh was left in the shade in the bottom two, along with fellow socialite Olivia Palermo who compete the top 10 list of the celerity wardrobe we would like to own.
Suzi Burns, PR Manager for Williams said: “It’s refreshing to see that age has no limits when it comes to fashion. Our research clearly shows that you don’t have to be young to be a fashion icon with the top three having a combined age of 180.

“The last few years grey haired, mature celebrities including the Queen have grabbed headlines with their impeccable style, confidence and grace both on the red carpet and across television screens but it’s still surprising to see that the bottom four are made up of some of the hottest fashionistas of the moment, especially Alexa.” Concluded Burns.
