Halfords launches free five point checks worth £15 for all drivers in a bid to keep Britain moving this winter
• 40% of drivers won’t get their cars checked for winter
• 12 million drivers have never had cars checked for the colder months
• 1 in 10 have never heard of winter tyres
HALFORDS reveals 40 per cent of drivers won’t get their cars checked for winter, as it launches its free five-point winter checks, worth £15, with 28 per cent saying they don’t know how to perform essential checks on oil, wiper blades and screen wash.
The stats reveal that 12million drivers have never had their cars examined for the colder months, and 1 in 10 have never heard of winter tyres. A quarter of drivers don’t know how to check their vehicle’s oil and shockingly 20 per cent revealed they didn’t know if all the lights on their cars are currently working.
90 per cent of drivers don’t know wiper blades need replacing annually, and over 20 per cent admitted to mixing household detergent with screen wash in the past.
Halfords’ motoring ambassador Jodie Kidd says: “It always pays to be prepared when the cold weather bites and Halfords’ free winter checks means you can prevent any motoring surprises while out on the road. Getting your car checked by an expert helps give extra peace of mind ahead of any frost, sleet or snow.”
Paul Tomlinson, Halfords’ winter checks expert said: “Our insight shows that sometimes keeping the car topped up with oil or wiper blades in the best condition isn’t the top priority – but making these small checks will help keep your car road worthy and save money in the long run. That’s why we’re bringing back our free winter checks to give drivers peace of mind on the road.”
