- Superdrug reveals pastel hair dye shakes off blue rinse past to be today’s hottest beauty buy -

Three years ago the only pastel hair dyes sold on high street beauty shelves would be the lilacs and blues designed to add a coloured tinge to naturally grey hair – now however pastel and coloured hair dyes are officially the hottest beauty products selling twenty times more than last year.

When compared to last week sales of pink, lilac and blue hair dye have doubled as more and more people jump on the trend.

This week Caroline Flack embraced the pastel hair trend stepping out with a lilac shade, Pixie Lott switched from blue to pink in the space of a few days and Katy Perry showcased a multi-coloured pastel hair look while on tour.

Next week (5th October) Superdrug adds another nine products to its pastel hair colour collection with the launch of Paint by Pixie Lott, created by the pop star to capitalise on the new trend.

The bestselling products when it comes to pastel hair are those which offer an instant effect – and can also be washed out, allowing teenagers to choose a crazy colour for the weekend, wash out and avoid breaking the school rules on a Monday morning.

Simon Comins, Superdrug Buying Director comments: “Pastel hair colours are the hottest beauty trend at the moment. Walk down any high street and you’ll see women with full on green and pink hair, coloured tips or pastel streaks.

“Three years ago we had a couple of products for our older customer, now you’ll find over 30 products in our hair aisle for those looking for pastel or brighter hair shades.

“While celebrities are embracing the pastel hair trend this is definitely a movement which is being driven by teenagers, for once it’s famous folk copying teens, rather than the other way around.”
