Hobbycraft, the UK largest craft retailer reveals that the trend for adult colouring is continuing to grow with sales up 374 per cent year on year as adults look for an alternative way to relax after a hard day at work.
The trend for crafting with the aim to relax and cut out the day to day busyness of life has seen a resurgence in recent months and The Handmade Fair with Kirstie Allsopp revealed that seven in ten people craft to relax.
A survey of 2,000 UK adults by The Handmade Fair also reveals that one in five adults like to craft to boost their confidence and a quarter of those surveyed admitted that crafting helps to give them ‘peace of mind’.
Kirstie, the Queen of Handmade whose craft fair returns for a second year this autumn, comments on the trend; “There’s no doubt that crafting is therapeutic and a great way to help you relax and focus. From my experience there’s nothing better than getting on with a craft project to help me unwind if I’m feeling stressed. It’s the perfect antidote to the busyness of modern life and I’d recommend it to anyone feeling stressed.”
