FASHION FAIL FLUTTERS

Bookmaker Coral offers bets on fashion faux pas at Royal Ascot
As Royal Ascot gets into full swing next week, thousands of punters will gather at the Berkshire race track hoping to strike lucky and pick a winner.
But it’s not just the horses and jockeys vying for first position, there’s also competition in the fashion stakes and bookmaker Coral is offering tongue-in-cheek odds on the various fashion faux pas that could happen on the sidelines.

Despite the strict dress codes enforced by the race course, if past years are anything to go by there will be the inevitable rule breakers, intentional or not, with the bookmaker going 1-2 that a lady is removed for breaking the dress code and 1-2 that there’s a dress split.

While the bookmaker is expecting the rain to stay away for Royal Ascot, making it odds-on at 4-11 to that it doesn’t rain every day, there’s also the chance that punters witness skirts getting blown up (1-3), hats being blown away (1-5) or heels getting stuck in the wet grass (1-5). For men, it’s 6-1 that a gent trips over his tails.

As well as fashion, Royal Ascot never fails to deliver in the celeb spotting stakes and Coral is offering odds on which stars might be seen enjoying a day at the races. Following his day out at Glorious Goodwood last year, it’s 33-1 that Tom Cruise makes an appearance, while Wimbledon-loving Bradley Cooper is at 20-1 and recently married Michelle Keegan is at 12-1. At shorter odds are Royal Ascot regulars Sinitta at 1-4, Liz Hurley at 7-4 and Ant and Dec at 1-3.

Coral’s Nicola McGeady says: “As one of the most glamour events on the racing calendar, there’s nothing quite like Royal Ascot. The meeting has always been famous for its fabulous fashion but as thousands of punters look forward to a fun day at the races, there will inevitably be some that don’t even make it past the first hurdle. Whether it’s a dangerous combination of killer heels and a long dress, or a little too much wind revealing things it shouldn’t, our odds suggest that almost anything’s possible at Royal Ascot – including a visit from Hollywood royalty Tom Cruise!”
