Sales of culottes up 195% as mature women opt for the latest trouser trend
JD Williams, the leading retailer in fashion for the 50+ sector, has seen a 195% rise in sales of culottes over the past week, proving that the latest trouser trend is a hit with mature woman.
As worn by celebrities including Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow, this androgynous trend shows no signs of slowing down and was seen all over the catwalks at the latest shows for AW15.
Culottes were first introduced in the Victorian era to help women ride their bicycles and horses with ease and without the fuss of a full skirt. They signified the female leap into independence, and their modern day revival comes at a time when gender equality is a topic of discussion around the globe.
Carie Barkhuizen, spokesperson for JD Williams commented: “Older women are embracing the culottes trend as we head into the spring season, and our customers see them as a versatile alternative to the skirt and more flattering than traditional shorts. Plus, we offer a choice of leg lengths, so women can find that perfect just-below-the-knee fit.”
JD Williams offers culottes in black and in ivory (as worn in the latest TV advert featuring Lorraine Kelly) in sizes 10 – 32.
