Waitrose becomes the first supermarket of the year to offer customers English strawberries.
Despite the current cold weather blast, Britain is set for a sunny weekend and what says summer more than a punnet of English strawberries? Luckily, Waitrose sees their first crop of English strawberries on sale this weekend, the first supermarket to stock them this year, heralding the start of a season packed with the juiciest and ripest berries.
The strawberries are grown in glasshouses in West Sussex on the south coast of England by long-term supplier Harry Hall who has been working alongside the Waitrose team for over 20 years, providing customers with the very best, juiciest strawberries. Only the very best berries are harvested by hand and then delivered straight to Waitrose stores across the country, ensuring the freshest, tastiest berries.
Waitrose’s Strawberry Buyer, Nicki Baggott, comments: “The arrival of English strawberries heralds the start of an early summer in kitchens across the country, as those pining for sunshine start preparing summery dishes such as Eton Mess and strawberries and cream. At Waitrose we pride ourselves in the quality of our strawberries, making every bite a delight’
