- Superdrug sales show Little Red Lip is nation’s favourite -



Classic red lipstick has been a celebrity staple since the glory days of Hollywood, and stars including Taylor Swift and Rita Ora have helped remind beauty lovers of the show stopping power of the perfect red lip, driving Superdrug sales +30 per cent last year.

The trend shows no sign of slowing down in 2015 and this Valentine’s Day it may be all about 50 Shades of Grey on the big screen, but when it comes to beauty it’s 50 shades of red.

Superdrug’s Senior Cosmetics Buyer Jo Woodhouse said: “2014 was definitely the year of the red lip, we sold a third more red lipsticks than we did the year before and we’ll expect to see figures rise in the run up to Valentine’s Day this year.

“There are now so many shades out there so that everyone can find the right shade to suit their skin tone. L’Oreal really championed the trend with the launch of their Collection Exclusive Rouge earlier in 2014 which was an instant sales hit.

“Our customers are very fashion savvy and famous faces and style icons such as Rita Ora and Taylor Swift have really driven people to give a bolder lip a try.

“Looking further into 2015 we expect to see the hold of the red lip move slightly to give way to purple and lilac shades.”
